FAC-VA Fall Convening — Save the Date!

Join faculty affairs professionals from across Virginia for our first in-person Fall Convening. This one-day gathering brings together mid- and upper-level professionals from FAC-VA member institutions for a day of keynote insights, peer discussion, and practical sessions on the issues shaping faculty affairs today.

Registration: $100 (includes breakfast, lunch, conference expenses, and covers FAC-VA 2026 dues)
Pamela Eddy is the Associate Provost of Faculty Affairs and Faculty Development and a professor of higher education in Educational Policy, Planning, and Leadership at William & Mary. Her research interests include community college leadership and development, organizational change and educational partnerships, gender roles in higher education, and faculty development.

Session 1: Shaping the Future of Faculty Affairs: Professional Development, Mentorship, and Training Models
Topic: Faculty affairs professionals often step into their roles without a clear development path — yet each of us has developed expertise through unique combinations of mentorship, training, trial and error, and long-term support. Help spark the development of a future educational program, designed to advance faculty affairs as a profession. Share your professional development journey, the experiences, resources, and relationships that shaped your growth and fueled your success – what was available and what you wished was available to you.
Session 2: Effectively Integrating Faculty Information Systems & Technology
Topic: Are you currently utilizing a Faculty Information System to its full potential at your institution or considering adopting another vendor? Is your institution trying to figure out how to move into this space? Come ready to discuss how your institution utilizes technology within Faculty Affairs and learn about other ways to integrate technology.
2:30 – 3:45 PM • Concurrent Sessions 3 & 4
Session 3: Challenges and Strategies for Faculty Affairs Policies
Topic: How can (and should) faculty affairs policy decisions respond to the often-competing concerns of faculty, senior leadership, and external forces? Come ready to share challenges, opportunities, and strategies for thinking through and communicating about policy decisions generally, and faculty workload specifically.
Session 4: Faculty Development Curriculum
Topic: As faculty affairs professionals, we often design programs, workshops, and initiatives without a shared framework for how faculty learn and develop over time. This interactive session explores curricular approaches that can be adapted for faculty development, helping us to intentionally identify learning outcomes, sequence developmental experiences, and assess impact. Participants should plan to bring ideas for key learning objectives within your purview, and we will discuss where and how to create more cohesive, educationally grounded faculty development programs.
